The Harvest of Grace

The Harvest of Grace is book three of this series about Amish families.
Sylvia is the oldest of  eight girls. Her dad allowed her to help with the dairy cows but he did not include her in the finances and farming crop part. She is dating Elam who asked her to marry him. Sylvia did feel like she was ready so asked him to wait for her to give her answer. She discovered Elam was going into partnership with her dad and a couple of weeks later she discovers he has asked Beckie her sister to marry him and Beckie said yes.
 Sylvia stays around for a year or more until Beckie and the twins she had given birth too all had whooping cough and Sylvia was asked to take care of them since she had been vaccinated. She stays until Elam catches her in the barn and they kiss. She knows she has to get away so she persuaded her dad to let her go to another place and work on a dairy farm helping another family.
Michael Blank and his wife Dora had several babies just after birth and raised a daughter Elsie and son Aaron. Elsie was killed by a bull at age 28 and Aaron had went into rehab for alcoholism.Michael had arthritis and was unable to care for all the farm.
 Several months later Aaron come home and wants his parents to sell the house and move with him to another town and run an appliance store. His dad would not talk to him so he pitches in to help Sylvia on the farm for a few weeks.
  Cara and Lori are still living with Ada and Cara helps with the bakery items they sell while she is  learning Penn. Dutch language so she can join the church and marry Ephriam.Cara's dad shows up. She had not saw him since he left her at the bus station at 8 years old. He had been an alcoholic. Cara has lots of hatred for him and the church officials hear of it.
Ada has started courting Lena's dad, Israel. Lena and Grey have fallen in love but must wait till the mourning period is over to publicly court.
The Harvest of Grace is a story of love, grace, trials and hard work.

I enjoyed this book by Cindy Woodsmall. It was interesting.If you like Christian/ Amish novels you will like it too.

Love you More by Jennifer Grant

Love You More is a  book of experience in international adoption. Grant adopted a daughter ,Mia from Guatemala and tells of the ups and down they suffered. They already had 3 other small children when they started this adventure. Mia was v15 months old before they finally got to bring her home to be part of the family.
It offers  lots of resources for international adoption.
I found it difficult to read. I was sent this book by BookSneeze to read and review. Opinions are my own.

Not By Might by Al Lacy

 Not By Might was a good Christian, Western Romance. Chief US Marshall John Brockman is busy hunting down outlaws. He is working short handed because several of his deputies have been killed or wounded. His new wife Breanna is a nurse at Denver hospital and part time traveling nurse.

Stained Glass Hearts by Patsy Clairmont

        Patsy tries to enable us to see life from a broken perspective. She tells of her problems with agoraphobia and addiction to prescription drugs which had her homebound and almost bedbound. She developed an ongoing relationship with God that has allowed her to combat her fears as well as getting off the drugs and she now is a well known author as well as a speaker for Women of Faith conventions traveling all over.
       She uses stained glass to  help us understand that God can take a broken heart and put the pieces back together making something beautiful if we will allow Him to.
       At end of each chapter she gives examples of art galleries, museums, Scriptures, books, music etc that can help us with our brokenness.
      It was a good book. I was sent this book by Book Sneeze to review it. These are my own opinions.

Mercy came Morning book review

This is a novel by Lisa Tawn Bergren. It is about a young lady and her mother who has Alzheimers .
  Krista had never been close to her Mom who taught dancing and she never saw her Father. Her grandparents helped raise her until they died. At 17 Krista was sexually assulted by one of her Mom's boy friends and she broke off her relationship with Dane her boyfriend.
   Her Mom was getting confused and unable to take care of herself so Krista had she placed in seerl different nursing homes until Dane built a special home for Alzheimer patients. Krista had her placed there and left the area.
   Dane called to tell her her Mom was dying and that she needed to come and get things straight.She came and he gave her a book of her Mom's that she had wtitten notes in.
   Krista found out that her Mom did love her and care about her and walls started falling down.

aging is rough

    I am finding that growing older is not a picnic. I haven't felt well the past few days and not accomplished much. Not that I ever accomplish much as there are many things I want to do but my body says I can't.
   One of the hard parts is having to ask for help in doing things  I'm used to doing myself.Our children help a lot and never complain to us yet it bothers us that they work all week and spend their days off mowing our yard when we know they have work of their own to do.
   One son has spend two days this week helping on our car. We appreciate it so very much but it is really hard to ask for the help.
    With all the rough parts of growing older I still prefer it to the alternative.
     If your parents are still alive call them or go visit and give them a hug and let them know you appreciate them.
   

Poor Mans Peach Pie

     My husband is  the cook in my family.He is very good at it. We live on a limited budget and do things different from others.
      Last week I had a hankering for peach pie. We had froze  a few two years ago but had already enjoyed most of them. Hubby looked in freezer and found one bag of peaches and  a bag of peelings I  had asked  my daughter-in -law to save of the peaches they bought because I  remember mom making fried peach peeling pies when I was a kid.
     My hubby thawed both and made a delicious peach /peeling cobbler. Makes me wish we had more in the freezer.
